Did you know that September's birthstone, Sapphire, comes in ALL the colors of the rainbow?

While the medium to dark blue gems you are used to seeing are highly prized, sapphires also comes in pink, purple, green, orange, or yellow corundum, and are named by their color (pink sapphire, green sapphire). The red variety of corundum is ruby!

Small Facets Vs. Large Facets:
”Here’s an interesting physical phenomenon that we see as we are planning our gemstone cuts. In this pic, we took a piece of synthetic spinel and cut it in half. Both stones are the exact same dimensions and nearly identical weight. Material is the same color, same piece, and isotropic so no pleochroism involved. The crown pattern on both is exactly the same. Angles on the top and bottom are the same but the number of facets and size of facets on the pavilion has changed. Notice that the blue on the left looks lighter than the stone on the right.

Regardless of which color is more pleasing to you, these two colors have a different market price and if this were sapphire that could be the difference of hundreds of dollars, especially if this subtle shift changed the color grade on your stone certification.” ~ Justin Prim

Diamond trivia: Did you know that Graphite and Diamond are two different forms of carbon?

Diamond and graphite are two allotropes of carbon: pure forms of the same element that differ in structure! While Diamond is one of the hardest substances in the world, Graphite is very soft.

There are three forms of pure carbon: Graphite, Coal and Diamond. Coal is the least pure when found in nature. Diamond is the purest form of Carbon, however all have some impurities when found in nature.

September's birthstone is the beautiful sapphire πŸ’™ In lore, sapphire symbolizes nobility, truth, sincerity, and faithfulness. Ancient Greek and Roman kings and queens were convinced that blue sapphires protected their owners from envy and harm.

Traditionally, people have prized these gems for their celestial blues and violets. Its extraordinary color is the standard against which other blue gems—from topaz to tanzanite—are measured. Blue sapphires range from very light to very dark greenish or violet-ish blue, as well as various shades of pure blue. The most prized are a medium to medium dark blue or slightly violet-ish blue.

"We are the lucky ones!" It was a double diamond wedding anniversary for two sisters from Soham who celebrated sixty years of marriage! ⚭ 😍 ⚭ Shirley Human married Philip Howe on Feb. 21, 1959 while Shirley's sister Elaine Human married Brian Cooper on June 6, 1959!

Both weddings were held at the Baptist Church, in Soham, and both receptions were held at Soham Village College. Both couples went on to have two children and are now proud grandparents.

On 60 years of successful marriage, Elaine comments: "It does not feel like 60 years at all. We enjoy each others company and both of us have good families. We have always worked together and tried to be understanding."
