Important tip when wearing pearls: Put your pearls on last!

Softer stones like pearls are the exception to jewelry's general durability rules. They're a delicate gemstone. Pearls have a luster that can be damaged easily by many chemicals. They always go on last — after you've done all your primping, your hairspray, and your makeup.

Social media can be a lot of things, so we love when a fun story like this pops up. Check out how one woman found a wedding date on Twitter and now they're engaged!

*spoiler for those of you who may think that sounds crazy: he wasn't a stranger* :-)

"I had a wonderful experience with Jimโ€™s Jewelers today and had to leave a review! I called to ask about soldering my wedding and engagement band together. They said it would take about a day to do (another jeweler that I called said itโ€™d be three weeks). Being an addict to โ€œinstant gratification,โ€ I decided to go with the โ€œpick up Tuesdayโ€ schedule rather than three weeks. I dropped my rings off at approximately 12:30pm and I got the call at 3pm that my ring was finished and ready for pickup. I was blown away at their speed, customer service, and great work. My ring(s) turned out perfectly and their prices simply cannot be beaten. Thank you Jimโ€™s Jewelers!" - Reviewed by J 1127, via Google

Five years ago, an Ohio woman purchased a costume jewelry brooch, or so she thought, for just $8. Last week, it sold at auction for more than $26,000!

"The owner of the brooch gave it to her daughter to wear to church but she placed it in the bottom of her handbag and forgot about it. On a visit to a jeweller many months later, she was told the brooch was not costume but was, in fact, a very real and very valuable piece of 20th-century jewellery," said Bonhams Auction house in the US.

Set throughout with old European-cut diamonds, the brooch features an old mine-cut diamond, weighing 1.39 carats, a rectangular-shaped emerald originating from Colombia and weighing about 1.50 carats and an oval-shaped Burmese ruby, weighing 0.60 carat.

"All of Nature’s splendour seems to be reflected in the manifold opulence of fine Opals: fire and lightnings, all the colours of the rainbow and the soft shine of far seas."

Opal is October's second birthstone (along with tourmaline). The name derives from the Greek 'Opallos', meaning "to see a change (of color)." Opals range from milky white to black with flashes of yellow, orange, green, red, and blue. Opal is a formation of non-crystalline silica gel. Through time and nature's heating and molding processes, the gel hardened into the form of opals.

The amazing opal pictured is called "Galaxy Opal."
